What We're Learning
Reading- This week we've taken our guided reading paired passages and wrote a strong compare & contrasting paragraph. I gave the students the option to write or type them. They all chose to type. We also have had fun discussing poetry this week. We've discussed stanzas and different types of poetry. This week we will also learn about literal vs. non- literal language. The students will create some fun idiom posters.
Math- We've been comparing and contrasting fractions all week. We will continue this unit using manipulatives. For fun, have your child cook with you. Use a recipe and use some fractions to help them relate to real world experience. Example; Please pour half the 2/3 cup of sugar into the bowl.
Social Studies- We've begun learning about the accomplishments and obstacles of the European Explorers. We've used the online Social Studies Weekly videos and demonstrations as a guide in our learning. The students are really inquisitive.
Writing- We have a few writing elements taking place. Most have completed typing an opinion piece about homework. Our new opinion piece is about a rule they'd eliminate or change. We're working on forming several paragraphs to support their reasons.
